Prayers for the parish held every Friday in Church at 7.00pm.

This is still in Church at present. The prayer meeting has been known to move to one of our homes in the past. This happened last year once the evenings got very cold and dark - so it will not move this month or next, but watch this space!

Saints we remember in September

September 21st - MATTHEW

Apostle and evangelist First century

Matthew, one of the twelve apostles, was a tax collector in Capernaum when Jesus commanded him to follow him. Calling Matthew was a bold step for Jesus because tax collectors were hated for charging more than the prescribed tax. Matthew immediately left his work and threw a banquet for Jesus inviting other tax collectors. When the Scribes and the Pharisees criticised Jesus for eating with sinners Jesus responded that he had come to call sinners not the righteous. The Gospel that bears his name was compiled in the last half of the first century, and transcribed into Greek in about 80 AD.

September 27th - VINCENT DE PAUL

Founder of Ladies of Charity b.1581 d. 1660

Vincent was always looking for a good opportunity. At first the priesthood was simply a lucrative career to lift him out of poverty, but gradually his attention turned to find ways of serving God. Vincent saw the opportunity to form the Ladies of Charity to help those in need. After a wealthy family requested his help to instruct the peasants on their estates he organised a congregation of priests to help, which became the Priests of the Mission, or Vincentians. In the years that followed he established hospitals, seminaries, orphanages, and soup kitchens.
