Hospital Visiting

If you know of someone in hospital who would appreciate a visit from a representative of Holy Rood Church, do please let me know.  We have no way of knowing who is in hospital unless you let us know. It doesn’t matter if they are not regular churchgoers.

Courses for Lent

On Monday and Wednesday evenings our homegroups issue an invitation to everyone to join them for  'The Naturalist and the Christ: A Lent Course Based on the Film Creation'. This five-part Lent course draws on the life, work and religious struggles of Charles Darwin as depicted in the 2009 film 'Creation'. This compelling and accessible Lent course looks at questions of great importance to all Christians. The sessions begin with a showing of the film. They meet as follows:

There is also likely to be an ecumenical group on Thursday afternoons in the Methodist Church, using a York Course, Sacred Words for a Secular World. Look out for more information.

Lent Lunches

Churches Together are offering Lent Lunches of soup and bread in the Methodist Church on Wednesday during Lent. Commending 29th February, and continuing on 7th, 14th, 21st & 28th March. Donations will be given this year to Barnabas Fund which supports persecuted Christians in countries around the world.

Spreading the word

Please take extra copies of this bulletin for friends and neighbours.

Update on Church Toilet & Store Project

As you will be aware we have planning permission for our much needed toilet and store room. The total cost is in the region of £50,000 with around £22,000 already raised. Recent grant applications have brought in another £3,250 and there are further grants for which we are applying. We therefore still need approximately £25,000 in order to be able to go ahead. Part of our strategy will be to launch a general appeal very shortly, contacting every household in the parish inviting donations, but if you have any other ideas please get in touch.
