Reflect on RuthMost of us remember the story of Ruth from our childhood; a love story with a, “they all lived happily ever after” ending. Over the past few weeks I have been re-reading the book of Ruth and with the help of a daily Bible reading aid* taking a deeper look at the story of Ruth. As we are all only too aware, bad things happen to good people, lives are totally changed by a tragic moment and there seems little or no hope for better days. But the story of Ruth, Boaz and Naomi shows us that whatever is happening in our lives God never leaves us, and God is still at work when we feel abandoned. It also shows us how God blesses the most unusual of people. Ruth and Boaz were to become the great-grandparents of David, and they were also in the genealogical line of the universe's King of kings, as they appear in the family history of Jesus. Life is tough. Challenges and tragedies hit us suddenly. It's in the real world where the skies aren't always blue, where people get ill, and disasters happen, that we walk with God. Perhaps that is where you are today as you read this; you've suddenly found yourself where you never expected to be. Remember that God still loves you, and will never abandon you and is involved in every part of your life. Judy |
