PAST EVENTSLent Course 200810th Feb - 13th MarchThe Lord’s Prayer – praying it, meaning it, living itJesus gave us the Lord’s prayer in response to a request from his disciples “Teach us to pray” (Luke 11.1). The Lord's prayer gives us a pattern for living as Jesus’ disciples as well as a pattern for praying. Our Lent course uses the Lord’s Prayer to help us reflect on our prayer life and how it live out what we pray. There are five sessions:
You do not need to attend every group and are welcome to attend just one if you want to try it out. You can also swop between the Monday afternoon and Thursday evening sessions. It is very informal and you can contribute whatever you like to the discussion and prayer, but nobody would want to embarrass you by making you say anything, if you just want to be quiet and listen instead. Mondays2.00-3.30pm at 3 Lampton Close 10th February; 18th February; 25th February; 3rd March; 10th March Thursdays7.30-9.15pm (incorporating Prayer for the Parish) at 21 Hillside Road. 14th February; 21st February; 28th February; 6th March; 13th March There is an optional course booklet to accompany the series, priced at £2.75, which will be available for purchase at the first session.
Fairtrade is about guaranteeing growers in developing countries a fair and stable price for their crops, in order to ensure that they can make a decent living. It also provides an additional amount to be invested for social and economic development within grower organisations and/or for their local communities. This gives farmers and their families the chance to build a future without poverty. And it gives you the power to make it happen by choosing to shop differently. That’s Fairtrade. Fairtrade has improved the lives of millions of people - farmers, workers and their families - in developing countries. But, we need to keep promoting Fairtrade to ensure people know that buying Fairtrade products can make a positive difference. Look for this Mark on Fairtrade products:

Holy Rood Church is committed to Fairtrade and a range of goods is on sale after our Sunday services.
March Family Worship will be on Mothering Sunday
2nd March 2008 at 10.00am.
This is an informal, non-Eucharistic, service for people of all ages, both young and old. But we would particularly encourage those with young families to come along and join with us. The service will last about an hour and there will be refreshments afterwards, and an opportunity to meet with other people.
Joint Covenant Service with the Methodist ChurchThis has become an annual event in the New Year and we much appreciate taking part in this new look at where we are in relation to the God we love and serve. It was held on Sunday 13th January 2008 - both the service and the soup lunch that followed were very well attended.
Finding our vision: July - October 2007"Where there is no vision, the people perish," said the writer of Proverbs (29:18). We believe this and have been actively seeking God's vision for the future of Holy Rood, in many ways, and especially through:
The latest details on this process, and the outcomes so far, can be found in the "Future Vision for Holy Rood" section.
Christmas Quiz - 7th December 2007
Another well attended event; despite coughs and colds, as well as other commitments, keeping some of the regulars away.
Much earnest discussion from our team, on the left above - but we still didn't win (or even come close!)
Thank you once more to Glyn and Jenny Hunt (seated) - assisted by Nigel Beviss in the picture above - for doing as always another superb job of setting the whole thing up.
