PAST EVENTS8am Communion - 11th JuneWe enjoyed some fine early morning summer weather for the 8am Communion on Sunday 11th June. (It seemed a pity to go inside - so we didn't.)
19/4/06 - Congratulations, Judy!
Our Curate Judy Hill has just become a grandmother for the first time! Julian (Judy's son) and Sarah's baby arrived at 4am on Wednesday 19th April. He is a boy (called Joe) and weighed 9lb 7oz.
A definite result for the Friday prayers (we prayed he or she would not appear on Maundy Thursday!). Thank you Lord, for his safe arrival and for his family's joy.
10-13 April - Chattabox ClubHoly Rood joined with Churches Together in Wool, and especially our friends in the Methodist Chapel, to run a Children's Club in the Easter Holidays. Here are just some of the people who took part!
Many thanks to Hilary Bond, who kindly took these photos and allowed us to use them
Lent AppealWaterAid - Jars for Change
The WaterAid Lent Appeal 2006 was called “Jars of Change for Jars of Water” and asked us to fill empty jars with loose change, which the charity WaterAid will use to provide clean water in areas of Africa and Asia. The Holy Rood "Jars For Change" appeal has so far raised a total of £194.55 (total as at Mon 17th April). Well done, everyone. Easter Sunday 16th April 2006The day started at the 6.00am service when the Easter candle was lit from a fire kindled outside the Church. We moved inside, lighting candles as we went and greeting the Risen Christ.
After the readings, telling the story of our Christian faith, our baptismal vows were renewed round the font. The service ended as we gathered around the Easter Garden.
PS -The curate says she wants everyone to know that once we have a permanent incumbent he or she would naturally be expected to maintain the tradition of inviting the 6am congregation to breakfast afterwards! (Not everyone accepted - they didn't know what they were missing!)
Christian Aid Week 14th-20th May
Please give as much as you can this Christian Aid Week. Working with the poorest communities, Christian Aid invests in things that multiply and provide benefits for years to come-helping people to improve their own lives, whatever their race or religion. £7 pays the salary of a teacher in Bangladesh for a month, providing a better prospect for many children. £19 can buy a sheep in Bolivia. Buying sheep for a family means they can breed a flock, to provide food and an income, to live a better life. £35 buys 500 cocoa trees in South America-selling the cocoa beans provides a family with ongoing income. Wool Churches Together will be collecting outside the Post Office in the High Street during Christian Aid Week. There will also be Gift Aid envelopes available from all the churches- this will add 28% to your gift if you are a regular taxpayer. If you want any further information please contact: Judy Hill 462888
