Easter morning 2009 - 5.50amNot yet light - but the birds sounded beautiful . . . .
We gathered in the dark building -
At 6am we went outside to light the Easter fire symbolising the new light, warmth, and hope of Christ's resurrection - and the dawn of the new Church year.
The Easter candle was lit from the new fire . . .
We followed the Easter candle into the Church and passed the light from one candle to the other until the darkness had gone . . .
Readings and prayers . . .
. . . followed by the renewal of our baptismal vows and some enthusiastic sprinkling with water from the font.
On this occasion Revd Judy Hill was brandishing the rosemary bush for the sprinkling!
Now we sang a hymn whilst walking down the path to the Easter Garden that had been made by younger church members.
After the service there was time for breakfast . . .
. . . generously provided by Judy!
